The spark of something new: learning to weld

Daniel, Kelly-ann, and Daniel have been enjoying the welding course so far

At Cross-Guard, we’re always keen to offer learning and development opportunities to help our employees increase skills and pursue a role within the business they are passionate about.

Three of our colleagues – Kelly-ann, Daniel and Daniel – are now approaching their third week of a Level 2 MIG Welding course, supported by Cross-Guard and provided by North Lindsey College. The course will run for 20 weeks in total until March 2020, delivered through intensive 3-hour evening sessions every week.

The course covers primarily vertical welding and is mostly practical with a re-cap test at the end of each session. The final exam once the course has ended will assess four types of welding: butt joint welding, fillet welding, tube to plate welding, and lap joint welding.

Daniel said: “The course can be challenging in areas because of the types of weld we practise, which are mainly structural.”

Kelly-ann added: “It’s all about gaining new skills. The course has been enjoyable so far and we look forward to the weeks ahead.”

At the end of the course, all colleagues involved will receive the opportunity to take their welding knowledge that one step further with the potential to progress to the Level 3 course. This course will cover overhead welding.

We wish Kelly-ann, Daniel and Daniel all the best of luck with their studies and we look forward to sharing a further update next year. Follow our social media channels if you’d like to keep updated: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook.
