Security cages: the six sides of the Eclipse

Introducing certified Extendor server security cages

Extendor security cages are made to withstand high amounts of force – they are market-leading cages with unrivalled strength, suitable for the protection of servers, IT equipment and other high-value items. Constructed from security grilles, the Extendor range includes the following products: Elite, Vulcan and Eclipse.

Four-sided security cages are usually most common, but clients can also require fewer-sided cages that are braced against existing walls and ceilings. Stability of the cage is always an important factor when looking at cages with fewer sides.

The challenge: a six-sided server security cage

One of the more unique and challenging requests Cross-Guard received was to make a six-sided Eclipse security cage. This security cage would be fully secured with roof and floor and installed within data halls. The challenge was being able to place anything on top of the security grilles that formed the cage floor.

Bespoke security caging solutions

The solution the Cross-Guard team presented was to create effectively a ‘false floor’ that would rest on the security grid at the bottom of the cage, installing a ramp so opening of the cage door would not be restricted. The platform the team created contained legs to go through the grille lattices. Made from 4mm plate sheet steel, the platform consisted of six large sections bolted together.

Once cage and false floor were ready, they were sent to America and Switzerland for installation in the client’s data halls. The client was pleased with the result and the enhanced security the fully enclosed Eclipse cage provided.

Other server cage options

It’s not just the number of sides that can be customised – the Cross-Guard team are well practiced in dealing with any bespoke, unusual client requests with flexible Connexions cages also available. The team care about getting the right product that’s the right fit for the client. Other bespoke projects have included cages in multiple colours, cages designed and installed around overhead or underfloor services, and security cage ‘add ons’ such as a secure checking area previously constructed for a client.
