Fire Safety Training

Recently all our staff have undertaken Fire Safety Training to understand the procedures in case of an emergency. Our Health and Safety advisor provided all the team with relevant training and an information booklet. The training provided has allowed everyone at Cross-Guard to develop their knowledge of fire safety and evacuation. The Health and Safety advisor created a tour plan of the company to show the local fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire assembly points and fire exits.

Fire Extinguisher Safety

The Safety Training began with a tour of the building and discussion of the local evacuation centres and fire extinguishers. A detailed brief was mentioned to cover the use of fire extinguishers. Using the correct Fire Extinguisher is a critical step in putting out a fire safely and correctly. The Safety training discussed the different types of fire extinguishers available:

Water extinguishers can be used on wood, paper, and textiles, however, cannot be used on flammable liquid and live electrical equipment. Dry Powder can be used on wood, paper, textiles, flammable liquids, gaseous fires and live electrical equipment. The foam extinguisher can be used on wood, paper, textiles and flammable liquids, however, it cannot be used on live electrical equipment. The CO2 extinguisher can be used on flammable liquids and live electrical equipment, however, cannot be used on wood, paper, textiles and flammable metal fires. Lastly, a wet chemical extinguisher is used for cooking oil fires and wood, paper and textiles.

Evacuation and fire alarms

The knowledge of local evacuation points is a crucial fact to know about your place of work. Your nearest fire exit is labelled with a green sign with an arrow pointing to the direction of the fire exit. If a fire alarm goes off at your place of work it is crucial to find the fire exit and evacuate as soon as possible. All the staff have been made aware of the fire assembly point for safe evacuation. The benefits of fire safety training include all the staff being aware of evacuation points which could save their lives and their colleagues. This training has provided everyone with new knowledge and has allowed new members of staff to feel confident and safe at their place of work.
